MIT FEMA Trailer Sendoff

THE ARMADILLO BOSTON FAREWELL AND US TOUR
The MIT FEMA Trailer Project will hand over its transformed "Armadillo" trailer to Side Street Projects at a ceremony on June 18, 2009, at 5:15 PM, at the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in Boston. Related events from Noon to 7PM include temporary art projects and gardening workshops. Following the event, Side Street Projects will take the Armadillo trailer on a National Tour.
The FEMA Trailer Project began in April 2008 when the MIT Visual Arts Program received a donation of a surplus FEMA Trailer deployed in the Gulf Coast as temporary housing in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Over the past year, MIT Visual Arts Program Lecturer Jae Rhim Lee worked with students to convert this trailer into the Armadillo, a mobile composting center with vertical gardens, rainwater catchment system, permaculture library, and indoor multipurpose space. The Armadillo is being donated to Side Street Projects, a non-profit organization based in Pasadena, California.
